  3. Atlantic County Bikeway West Advanced Feasibility Study

This phase brings SJTPO one step closer to its goal of providing a regional trail network in South Jersey that offers a continuous, off-road, multi-use trail for all ages and abilities, consistent with the larger Circuit trail network and other high-quality trails in the SJTPO region.

SJTPO is working with Atlantic County and Consultants to further evaluate the feasibility of a 22-mile trail connecting the Camden County Link Trail to the Atlantic County Bikeway East. This project would expand Southern New Jersey’s trail network by creating a safe, continuous, off-road multi-use trail for residents and visitors.

Purpose

The Atlantic County Bikeway West Advanced Feasibility and Concept Development will evaluate the feasibility of a continuous, off-road trail corridor along a roughly 22-mile alignment connecting Atlantic County’s Bikeway East to the Camden County Link and ultimately contribute to a larger trail network from Cape May, New Jersey, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This study is a continuation of the 2021 feasibility analysis to further examine the preliminary preferred alignment identified. The preferred route follows Route 54, unused railroad rights-of-way parallel to Route 40, and other separated corridors to minimize traffic conflicts. The study further examines three focus areas, prioritized by their potential for connectivity and existing momentum.
