2018 Northern Transportation & Air Quality Summit

The 2018 Northern Transportation & Air Quality Summit will be held August 7th and 8th at North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) in Newark, NJ. The two-day summit will focus on the current and upcoming regulatory environment, new technologies, as well as current practices. Submissions for Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Safe Routes to School Funding Being Accepted Through September 18th.

Does your community have important bicycle and pedestrian project needs? The Safe Routes to Schools program and Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) may be able to provide funding. Applications for the 2018 Program are now being accepted through September 18, 2018. Similar to the 2016 Program, applications must be submitted via Sage. County and municipal governments among others are eligible to apply.

Attend a Free Workshop for Applicants of Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Safe Routes to School Funding

If you are considering submitting an application for the 2018 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) or Safe Routes to School program you should attend one of the free workshops being held by the Safe Routes to School Resource Center. These workshops will provide very useful information on how to submit a successful application and how to avoid common mistakes that can disqualify an application.

You can join SJTPO and others at a workshop at Cumberland County College on Wednesday, May 23rd from 10 am to Noon. To register to attend, click here.

Cape May County Ocean Drive (CR 621) LCD Study Information

In support of Cape May County, the SJTPO initiated efforts with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to secure funding for a Local Concept Development (LCD) study for Ocean Drive (County Road 621) Upgrades and Bridge Developments. Funding efforts were successful, and approved at the SJTPO Policy Board in September 2017, with Michael Baker International, Inc. chosen as the consultant.

The LCD study is the first phase of the project, and will help to identify and assess strategies that will direct bridge improvements and maintenance. For more information about the project, and for upcoming meeting dates, please visit the project website at capemaytwomilebridge.com.

2018 CPS Award Nomination

Wayne Shelton, one of our Traffic Safety Specialists was nominated for the “2018 National CPS Technician and Instructor of the Year” award. Mr. Shelton is truly deserving of this nomination, as he is dedicated to educating the public about roadway safety.

 

The Passing of CAC Vice Chair, Mr. Michael Hajek, Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) Vice Chair, Mr. Michael Hajek, Jr. Mr. Hajek was a valued member of the Committee, as well as other organizations in both Middlesex and Cape May counties, and will be missed by all that knew him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Green Creek Community Church in South Green Creek, NJ. Mr. Hajek’s obituary can be read at http://bit.ly/2FxhJMU (link no longer active).

The Policy Board Welcomes Two New Members

At the January 2018 Policy Board Reorganization meeting, the SJTPO was pleased to welcome two new members. The two members were George Castellini from Cumberland County and Frank Gilliam, Jr., the Mayor of Atlantic City.
