Opportunities to collaborate

SJTPO is a smaller organization, allowing me to participate in more conversations on various topics and get a better chance to see how the many different parts fit together. In my position, I see the overlap between safety, bicycle and pedestrian, freight, and equity issues – elsewhere, those would be three or four completely separate units.

Healthy work-life balance

“I have a healthier work-life balance as a State of New Jersey employee. We are encouraged to use our ample time off (vacation, holidays, sick, administrative, and flex if we go over our work week). I appreciate knowing I have great health benefits, so my family won’t get derailed by a significant medical expense. I am also part of a pension plan, which makes me more comfortable about my retirement.”

Close to everything

“As someone who lived in the District of Columbia and close to New York City, it was important to me to find somewhere I could grow when looking for a job after college. In South Jersey, there is less traffic and less sprawl, the people are friendly and relaxed, and as someone who loves the outdoors, I couldn’t resist moving closer to the Pinelands! I also enjoy the fresh fruit from the farmers’ markets and being a stone’s throw away from the shore towns – a few of my favorites being Somers Point, Margate, Sea Isle City, and Cape May. Plus, South Jersey is centrally located to my friends and family who live along the East Coast. We can plan day or weekend trips to Philly, NYC, and Baltimore.”
