Pippa Woods joined the SJTPO Policy Board at its January 28, 2008 reorganization meeting.  She brings over 28 years of experience in the transportation industry in Canada and the United States in strategic and business planning, and innovative program development at the state and federal levels. 

Currently, Ms. Woods serves in NJ Transit's Capital Planning Department, focusing on Intermodal and Interagency coordination.  Recently, she served as the Business and Project Development Director for the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC) in the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where she managed a wide range of research projects on all modes of transportation, including a policy and planning advisory role to the NJ Turnpike Office of Transportation Policy and Planning; State ferry policy and federally funded ferry emission reduction projects; facilitating and implementing special public policy series on aging and mobility issues.

Recent projects include the University Transportation Research Center (UTRC) funded project to analyze NJ Turnpike truck data to consider "Freight as an Economic Indicator" for the region and State; the Evaluation and Testing of Models for NY Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC); and the Camden Work Force Investment Board's proposal to demonstrate enhanced human service transportation Models through the development of a model Travel Management Coordination Center for the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Her prior experience includes serving as Assistant Commissioner for Planning, Research and Local Government Services at the NJ Department of Transportation, where she directed statewide policy and advanced key strategic initiatives including the freight focused "Portway"; the first transportation public private partnership program in New Jersey and established the Transit Village Program.  Prior positions include Business Planning Director at NJ TRANSIT, and Policy and Project Development Director at BC Transit in Canada.

Ms. Woods serves on the Ferry and the new Paradigms Committee and panel for the national Academies of Science Transportation Research Board (TRB).  She serves on the Fort Monmouth Restoration Advisory Board representing Tinton Falls, New Jersey and she is the immediate past president of the Greater New York Chapter of WTS Advancing Women in Transportation.  She currently serves as Vice President on the national WTS Scholarship Board.

Ms. Woods has a BA in Sociology and a Diploma of Public Sector Management from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada.
