The transportation planning process is a major undertaking that involves numerous parties at all levels of government. Getting involved in this process and making your thoughts known can be difficult without an understanding of the process and the players involved. This page attempts to assist in understanding how, where, and when to get involved to maximize the effectiveness of your input and not feel that your efforts are wasted. It is important to start off by familiarizing yourself with the "rules of the game." The Public Involvement Plan lays out the rules we at the SJTPO have committed ourselves to, and various techniques that we may use to seek out Involvement.

This can be a challenging question to answer, as each individual project may be controlled at different levels. If you are uncertain, contact us, and we will do our best to direct you to the proper organization. However there are some major players that are good places to start.

 

At the MPO (SJTPO) Level... (Public Involvement Plan | Counties | State | Municipalities | To Top)

There are numerous ways to get involved in our process, you may...

  1. Email any comments, questions, or concerns to sjtpo@sjtpo.org;
  2. Go to our Contacts Page, and send an email directly to any individual staff member;
  3. Give us your feedback online, any time at our Feedback and Surveys Page;
  4. Add yourself to our Mailing List to be informed about SJTPO activities;
  5. Provide your input at one of our Policy Board Meetings, to see when they meet, go to our Home Page and look under the Calendar of Events tab;
  6. Provide your input at any of our other public meetings, to find an upcoming meeting, go to our Home Page and look under the Calendar of Events tab; or
  7. Request that a staff member come to speak at one of your events, you can do this by sending a request to sjtpo@sjtpo.org, or send an email directly to a staff member from our Contacts Page. Please specify the group, meeting, time, location, and what topic you would like discussed, this will help us to ensure that we are available and can satisfy your needs or help direct you to the appropriate person or group to address your topic.

Each county in New Jersey has a Board of Chosen Freeholders that acts as a legislative body in their county. These are major players in the process and is often a great place to voice concerns or educate yourself about county-level projects. The following is information about each of the county Boards of Chosen Freeholders in the SJTPO region. Also included is information about the county planning boards as well as links to county contact information.
